It’s starting to warm up, and we’re not just talking about the weather. Summer blockbuster movie season apparently has moved to April, the concert schedule is packed and the time has come to get in some gaming.

Movies

‘Pet Sematary’

Based on Stephen King’s novel, this story is back on the big screen. And the trailer looks horrifying, so we’re not so sure we want to sit in a dark theater and watch this one. But we are. But we’re not. Right? In theaters April 5.

‘Shazam!’

Taken seriously, “Shazam!” could be a silly superhero movie. But it looks like they’re leaning into the inherent goofiness of a teenager with the ability to turn into a super-powered adult, and Zachary Levi seems like perfect casting. In theaters April 5.

‘Hellboy’

The demon-from-hell-turned-good-guy is back on the big screen, making the leap from the pages of Mike Mignola’s lauded comic book series. Despite ancient prophecies, a sorceress from another dimension and world-ending monsters all being in play, the movie won’t be taking itself too seriously. Sounds like fun. In theaters April 12.

‘Avengers: Endgame’

One year after Thanos snapped his fingers and dusted half of all life in the universe (and half the Avengers, too), we finally get to figure out what happens next. The remaining Avengers will try to do, well, something — we’re not sure what yet, surely by design — to set things right. In theaters April 26.

Albums

Mountain Goats, "In League With Dragons"

Mountain Goats, “In League With Dragons”

Anderson .Paak, ‘Ventura’

Recorded at the same time as his last album, the great “Oxnard,” this record is out on April 12. The record features guest appearances by Andre 3000, Nate Dogg and Smokey Robinson, among others.

Glen Hansard, ‘This Wild Willing’

Maybe you know Hansard from the film “Once,” but he didn’t stop there. His writing and musicianship have evolved. “This Wild Willing,” out April 12, marries his folky singer-songwriter style with some serious (and seriously cool) production. Lead track “I’ll Be You, Be Me” is a vulnerable song enveloped in some gorgeous music.

Lizzo, ‘Cuz I Love You’

This rapper and singer is everywhere thanks to songs like “Juice” and “Cuz I Love You” and “Tempo,” her song with Missy Elliott. When this album hits on April 19, expect to see even more of her as the entertainer and her music explode.

Craig Finn, ‘I Need a New War’

It’s been five years since The Hold Steady released an album, but frontman Craig Finn hasn’t let his band’s relative inaction stop him from making music. On his third album since 2014, he once again drops his observational storytelling songs, including “Something to Hope For.” It’s out April 26.

The Mountain Goats, ‘In League With Dragons’

Frontman John Darnielle has long been obsessed with role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, and it shows on this new record. It’s something of a rock opera about wizards and dragons, but there’s also noir tales of regular people. It’s out April 26.

Video Games

Mortal Kombat 11

‘Mortal Kombat 11’

FINISH HIM! You’ll be doing a whole lot of bloody supermoves when the new iteration of the classic fighting franchise hits consoles on April 23 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. The plot picks up some time after the last one and involves corrupted gods, time gods and, well, do you care? It’s a game full of ridiculous characters who break each other’s bones and eviscerate their enemies, which the game is pleased to show in high definition. Fun!

‘Days Gone’

Deacon St. John is one of the few people left in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombie-like freakers, the remnants of a global pandemic. With his motorcycle and some weaponry, Deacon has to stay ahead of the zombies (which includes wildlife such as bears). This PlayStation 4 exclusive is out on April 26.

‘Dangerous Driving’

You wanna race? Hit the gas and tear through some road courses at extremely high speeds. This game, a spiritual successor to “Burnout,” puts plenty of fighting and crashing into its races, making every course a little more exciting than your average racer. It’s out April 9 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
