Rockstar Games has today released the world premiere gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. Previous trailers have focused on the game’s story, but now, we’re given a better understanding of what we can all expect to play. Based on what was shown today, it’s clear Rockstar is about to deliver one of the most ambitious open world titles in years.
Like its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption 2 allows players to experience what it was like living in the Wild West. Well, sort of, considering how both games take place when that era in American history is either ending or effectively over. This time, the game’s narrative focuses on an outlaw named Arthur Morgan who, along with the Van der Linde Gang, makes a living off the harsh land anyway that he can. Considering how he’s an outlaw, this means a whole lot of robbing and killing. However, there’s more to the game than one would initially suspect.
As the trailer demonstrates, players can now build a community of outlaws and folks who choose to live away from modern society. The game will include base camps players must maintain by bringing in food and supplies. There also appears to be a social aspect to camps. Outside of camps, players can engage in all manner of activities including hunting, fishing, fighting, duels, and more. One explores the vast world either on horseback or on foot.
If you follow me on Twitter then you know how hyped I am for this game. The original Red Dead Redemption is one of my absolute favorite games, and I expect the sequel will be even better. Rockstar promises more gameplay trailers to come so I think it’s safe to say we’ll get a healthy dose of Red Dead Redemption 2 content from now until it releases on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One.
