CAIRO – 17 March 2019: British entrepreneur Thomas Ilube, the founder and chairperson of African Gifted Foundation, called upon African leaders to apply artificial intelligence in the health care field.

“The most important thing that I am interested in is the application of artificial intelligence in health care,” he said at the Future of Scientific Research and Health Care session at the Arab-African Youth Platform on Sunday.

Artificial intelligence can revolutionize the health care field in the upcoming 10 or 15 years, he said, noting that South Korea has spent $2 billion in investments in artificial intelligence, particularly in health care.

“There are three things that I think are more important. First is focus, second is finance, and third is culture, particularly in health care,” he said.

“Providing the finance and adopting a culture of rapid movement is essential to realize the future of making an impact through scientific research,” Ilubeadded.
The main helping factor is the finance, he said, adding that entrepreneurs should think of all funding processes.

The UK has a plan for entrepreneurship and this plan makes investing in start-ups attractive, Ilube said, continuing that governments do not create investments; they create an incentive environment for investments.

Start-up companies should have the culture of acceptingfailure and the culture of moving forward, he said.

Ilubewas among the 2017-2018 list of the most influential people of African or African Caribbean heritage.

The African Gifted Foundation is a British NGO that operates in Ghana. It opened the African Science Academy that helps African youth from different countries to innovate in science.

The Arab and African Youth platform in Aswan is one of the biggest activities organized by the World youth Forum under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

The two-day event sheds light on certain topics such as the future of scientific research and health care, and the impact of advanced technology and innovation in Africa and the Arab region.
