Apple’s set to announce new iPhones on September 12th, but some of you might want to skip the iPhone 9, iPhone XS, and iPhone X Plus in favor of next year’s models.
The company hasn’t confirmed the details yet, but Apple’s new iPhones have already leaked out ahead of the media event at Steve Jobs Theater next week.
According to a numerous reports, Apple plans to launch three new iPhone models in 2018. One is a 5.8-inch successor to the iPhone X. One is a larger 6.5-inch iPhone X. And the other is a cheaper 6.1-inch LCD model that could come in a variety of colors with a cheaper price point.
Apple typically releases new iPhones a week after the announcements which means pre-orders will likely start on September 14th ahead of a release date on September 21st.
With just a few days to go, those of you in the market for a new phone would be wise to wait for Apple’s announcements. That said, others might want to start thinking about waiting for next year’s crop of iPhones.
We’re likely a year away from most of the 2019 iPhone announcements, but we’ve already seen several credible rumors emerge as we push toward the end of 2018.
These phones are still in development which means plans can and likely will change before they’re unveiled to the public, but there are already some great reasons to think about waiting for next years models.
In this guide we’ll take you through reasons to consider waiting and also some reasons to think about settling on another device in 2018 or in the first half of next year.
Wait for Apple Pencil Support
At one point it looked like this year’s iPhone models would get Apple Pencil support. These days it’s looking less likely.
TrendForce claims Apple is bringing Apple Pencil support to the 2018 iPhone. Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News also claims Apple will pair the Apple Pencil with the 5.8-inch iPhone and the iPhone X Plus.
Anything is possible, but respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes it could take longer. Kuo has a very solid track record when it comes to iPhone rumors and we’re inclined to believe him at this point.
If that’s the case, you might have to wait until 2019, or later, for Apple to bring its stylus solution to the iPhone for the first time.
If you’re looking for a top notch phone with a stylus in 2018, you’ll want to take a long hard look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
