A 20-year-old woman was struck over the head and thrown to the ground Tuesday night in San Francisco when a man tried to steal her phone as she was getting off a Muni bus, authorities said.

At around 11 p.m., the woman was getting off the bus at Geary Boulevard and Laguna Street when a man, believed to be 19 or 20 years old, allegedly grabbed her smartphone out of her hand.

The woman struggled with the man over the phone, at which point he punched her in the head and threw her to the ground, police said.
