The Essential Phone has been around a while now and has undergone several price reductions as it attempts to improve on the meager says that it achieved in 2017. The Essential Phone has issues with its software and camera quality, and as Erik pointed out when he reviewed the Essential Phone, so long as ‘photography isn’t your top priority, there’s a lot to like with Rubin’s first effort’. It seems the Essential is fully aware of the shortcomings of its first smartphone because it is promising that its second-generation smartphone will be better.

Despite multiple software updates to improve the camera performance on the Essential Phone, it still lags behind 2017’s heavy hitters such as the Pixel 2 and Galaxy S8. In an interview with Business Insider, Essential’s head of Industrial Design, Linda Jiang, had this to say about the first Essential Phone:

“In general, one thing that we got hit hard with was the quality of our camera, and we’re really looking forward to improving that with our next-gen, making sure that we’re listening to our customers and their pain points. We’re going to make it better for you.”

We can say, we heard you and we’re going to do it better on the second-gen for sure,” Jiang said.

Besides promising an improved camera experience on the 2nd-gen Essential Phone, Jiang also mentioned that the company was researching other coatings and textures to make the phone less susceptible to fingerprints, especially in relation to the black color. She also said that accessories will work on the second Essential Phone, which means that owners of the 360 Camera Module can breathe easy.

Besides the camera experience, what other improvements would you like to see with the Essential Phone 2?
